After an Omaha or Lincoln storm: what to check

Hail and wind damage often stays hidden until the next hard rain. Two recent storms show how different parts of the area get hit:

  • May 24, 2024: an overnight line of storms that the National Weather Service classified as a derecho. Reports included shingles blown off southeast of Bennington, a large tree on a house in southeast Omaha, a brief tornado south of Gretna and a large tree down in Lincoln.
  • September 14, 2025: nickel- to quarter-size hail fell west-northwest of Lincoln, and later that afternoon a large tree branch snapped and fell on a house west of Omaha.

From the ground, look for:

  • Shingles or pieces of shingle in the yard or gutters
  • Granules (dark sand) piling up at downspout outlets
  • Dents in gutters, downspouts, vents or the AC unit
  • New stains on ceilings or in the attic after rain

Stay off the roof. A free inspection is safer, and we photograph everything we find.

How an Omaha repair visit works

  1. Call or book online

Tell us what you're seeing: a drip, a stain, shingles in the yard. If water is coming in, say so. We offer 24/7 emergency service.

  2. Inspection and photos

We look at the roof, the flashing and the attic where we can reach it, and photograph what we find so you can see it too.

  3. A written repair scope

You get what we'll fix, what it costs, and our honest view on whether a bigger project would save you money long-term.

  4. The repair

Same-day or next-visit options when capacity allows. If the roof is open, ask about temporary tarping while you decide.

Repair or replace? The honest version

A repair usually makes sense when…

  • The damage is in one spot or one slope
  • The rest of the shingles still lie flat and hold their granules
  • The leak comes from flashing, a pipe boot or a few missing shingles

A replacement usually makes sense when…

  • Hail bruising or granule loss shows up across many slopes
  • You're fixing new leaks in different places every season
  • Shingles are curling, cracking or brittle across the roof

Hail or wind damage? We'll tell you if a claim is worth filing

  • ✓ We photograph what we find and walk you through it in plain language.
  • ✓ We explain the deductible math before you file. If a repair or a retail replacement is the smarter spend, we say so.
  • ✓ If you file, our team can be on site when the adjuster inspects, so the scope stays clear.
  • ✓ Your policy and your insurance company decide what's covered.

Permits and local paperwork

  • Where the city or county requires a permit, we apply for it and schedule the inspections: the City of Omaha, Douglas County outside city limits, and the other cities we're licensed in.
  • We're licensed with the City of Bellevue and the City of Council Bluffs, and we've pulled roofing permits in both in 2026.
  • If your HOA approves colors or materials, we schedule around that approval.

License and insurance info available on request.

Good, Better or Best: pick the package that fits

If your roof needs replacing instead of repairing, every Omaha replacement is priced as Good, Better and Best side by side.

  • Good package

    • ✓ 5-year craftsmanship warranty
    • ✓ 1 yearly roof checkup after installation
  • Better package

    • ✓ 7-year craftsmanship warranty
    • ✓ 2 yearly roof checkups after installation
  • Best package

    • ✓ 10-year craftsmanship warranty
    • ✓ 3 yearly roof checkups after installation
    • ✓ Seamless gutters and downspouts included

A yearly checkup is one scheduled inspection with a photo report and minor preventive maintenance (sealing exposed nail heads, resealing serviceable pipe boots). Repairs, storm damage and other work are quoted separately, and checkups don't extend or change any warranty. Every package also carries the manufacturer's limited material warranty. Exact materials, scope and price are in your written proposal. Compare the packages

Omaha roof repair questions

Can you stop a leak before I decide on a full replacement?
Often, yes. Localized damage, flashing failures and isolated shingle loss can usually be stabilized so you can decide without water coming in. Same-day or next-visit options when capacity allows.
When is a repair the better value than a replacement?
When the damage is limited and the rest of the roof is sound. If storm damage is spread across the roof or the roof is worn out, we'll show you the replacement and claim options instead of selling you patch after patch.
Will the repaired shingles match my roof?
Not always exactly. Shingles fade with sun and weather, and colors get discontinued. We'll tell you before the repair how close a match we can get, so there are no surprises.
Is the repair estimate free?
Yes. The inspection and written estimate are free, with no obligation. You don't have to buy anything during our visit, and your price is good for 30 days.
Hail hit my neighborhood. Should I file a claim or just repair?
It depends on how much damage there is and your deductible. We photograph what we find and explain the deductible math before you decide whether to file. Your insurance company decides what's covered.
Water is coming in right now. What should I do?
Move valuables away from the drip, catch the water, and call us at (402) 512-4200. We offer 24/7 emergency service, and if the roof is open we can talk about temporary tarping until a permanent repair.
Do you repair roofs in Lincoln and the Omaha suburbs?
Yes. We cover the Omaha metro, including Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista, Millard, Elkhorn and Gretna, plus Council Bluffs and nearby Iowa, and Lincoln, all within about an hour of our Omaha Headquarters at 1515 N Saddle Creek Road.
