What Elkhorn went through in 2024
- April 26, 2024: an EF-4 tornado with peak winds near 170 mph touched down in western Douglas County, south of West Center Road, and tracked north past Waterloo and through Elkhorn. Homes in Elkhorn's Ramblewood subdivision took EF-3 damage. From there the tornado continued through Bennington and south of Blair.
- July 31, 2024: a mesonet station 2 miles east of Elkhorn measured a 77 mph gust, and another 3 miles west of Millard measured 75 mph.
Homes that weren't in the tornado's direct path still took debris strikes and strong winds. Wind at those speeds can break the seal strips on shingles, and they start lifting in later storms. If your roof was patched in 2024 and nobody has checked it since, get it looked at.

Our work in and around Elkhorn
- We've prepared Elkhorn permit applications since spring 2024. The City of Omaha has issued us permits in Elkhorn's 68022 ZIP and in the neighboring northwest Omaha ZIPs 68116 and 68164.
- We handle the City of Omaha or Douglas County permit and the inspections for you.
What we check on an Elkhorn roof
- Debris impacts and punctures, not just hail hits
- Lifted, creased or missing shingles along the ridges and edges, where wind gets under first
- Flashing and pipe boots that were disturbed during a 2024 patch
- Gutters, fascia and attic ventilation
You'll get a written scope with Good / Better / Best options. Better and Best include Malarkey Class IV impact-resistant shingle options, so you can compare prices before you decide.
Replacing the roof on a larger Elkhorn home
Many Elkhorn homes are big two-stories with steep pitches and lots of valleys. If you're replacing rather than patching, ask about premium architectural and designer shingle options, and we'll price them side by side in your scope. Financing for qualified homeowners: $0 down, 1 year no payments, no interest, subject to credit approval. See our workmanship guarantee and our West Omaha replacement page for more on complex rooflines.
Elkhorn roofing questions
- My roof was patched after the tornado. Should I have it re-checked?
- If a patch went on quickly in 2024, it's worth checking that the flashing, pipe boots and nearby shingles were sealed properly. A free inspection will tell you.
- Is a new claim still possible for 2024 damage?
- That depends on your policy's claim deadlines. Check with your insurer. We'll show you what's on the roof either way, and if a claim doesn't make sense, a retail package plus financing may be the better route. See claim vs retail.
- Do you pull the permit?
- Yes. Whether your address falls under the City of Omaha or Douglas County, we apply for the permit and schedule the inspections.
